PRS NEWS -- February 2026

A note from our President:

Pacific Rim Sculptors thrives because of the generosity, creativity, and commitment of our volunteers. Thank you for being at the heart of our community.

Looking Ahead to 2026

Dear PRS Volunteers,

As we begin 2026, I want to thank you for the time, care, and energy you give to Pacific Rim Sculptors. Our Board of Directors is focused this year on strengthening governance, transparency, and programming; all best practices for a healthy nonprofit arts organization, and the vital role of volunteerism in making this work possible.

Board Updates:

I would like to extend sincere thanks to Jan Blythe as she steps down from the board, and to welcome Anita Wigglesworth as an Advisory Board Member. Anita is the Vice President for Programs and Marketing at the Luther Burbank Center for the Arts in Santa Rosa. I’m also pleased to share that Dave Kwinter has been appointed Secretary, with deep appreciation to Briona Hendren for her service in that role. A big thank you to the continuing board members: Vice President Susan Amorde, Treasurer Cameron Callahan, Secretary Dave Kwinter, Operations Manager Briona Hendren, Barry Beach, Sena Clara Creston, Marguerite Elliot, Charlie Gadeken, and Catherine Merrill.

Financial Transparency:

With Cameron Callahan at the helm, we’re continuing to strengthen our financial stewardship by improving reporting access through QuickBooks and carefully reviewing expenses—an important part of maintaining trust and accountability.

Exhibition Opportunities:

Our exhibitions team, Chair Dave Kwinter, Vice Chair Susan Amorde, and Santa Cruz representative Lynne Todaro ensured the current exhibition, “Connected “ at MK Gallery in Santa Cruz, was realized. The team has exciting future exhibitions and projects underway for 2027: an exhibition at NY2CA Gallery (Benicia), “Question of Balance 2” at the Lancaster Museum of Art, and early planning for a 2028 outdoor exhibition with the Sonoma Botanical Garden. We’re also exploring future collaborations with the Luther Burbank Center for the Art and Sonoma State University.

Events and programming:

In 2026, volunteers are underway scheduling out museum outings, Second Sunday studio visits, professional development webinars, as well as expanding offerings to our Southern California membership and arts community.

Membership:

Two PRS board members are creating something new for the younger demographic of current and prospective members: Operations Manger, Briona Hendren, is currently expanding our a student member program with offerings that include free memberships for students at accredited institutions, and Marguerite Elliot is developing mentorship opportunities to better cultivate the growth of individuals arts practice and business.

Our next board meeting is March 10, 2026. I warmly invite you to stay involved, share ideas, and continue shaping the future of Pacific Rim Sculptors alongside us.

With gratitude,

Catherine Daley

President, Pacific Rim Sculptors

"Drawn From Life" is the third annual exhibition of figurative sculpture, paintings & drawings by prominent Bay Area artists, curated by Catherine Merrill & Susan R. Kirshenbaum at the Sausalito Center for the Arts.

The work in the exhibition reflects today's narrative, expressive phase of the Bay Area Figurative Movement, as each artist continues to draw on the Living World to express our stories. These artists might be responding to inspiration from live models or sharing their personal struggles & the tension of the universe that surrounds our lives. As artists, teachers & curators, we are shedding light on our world of life drawing, sculpting & painting, which continues to grow & maintain a large following of dedicated artists.

Barry's work is also on view at The Drawing Room in the exhibition Sanctuary, now through March 8th.  This was a locals-only open call exploring the meaning of sanctuary in the San Francisco Bay Area. Historically a refuge for many marginalized communities, the concept of sanctuary has been challenged and fractured in our current political climate. Curated by Courtney Norris and Renee DeCarlo, the exhibition invites artists to define and create sanctuary in all its forms - spatial, spiritual, and political.
