Happy Almost Summer! I hope you’re enjoying the lovely weather and have your creative juices flowing in the studio. I have some exciting news to share: I have decided to step down as the president of PRS. I have had a wonderful time serving the organization as president since 2019 when Charles Stinson stepped down. But fear not: we are in excellent hands! Catherine Daley, former vice-president, is now president. She has years of experience and institutional history with PRS, as she is now the longest serving board member. Catherine lives and works in Sonoma County. And working closely with Catherine will be Susan Amorde, hailing from SoCal and doing amazing things on our Exhibitions Committee to broaden our reach there. Susan also has years of experience with arts nonprofits most recently with Northern California Women’s Caucus for Art. Both Catherine and Susan are dedicated artists who understand PRS and have the best interest of the organization as their North Star. I am grateful for their work, their leadership, and that PRS now has female leadership directing the organization, something that has been needed for a long time. Please join me in welcoming them to their new positions! We are fortunate as an arts organization that we continue to have great leaders who step up to the responsibilities and continue to carry the torch of keeping sculpture visible in the Bay Area and beyond. Many thanks also to Charles Stinson, past president, whose leadership and stamina caused us to be a legal nonprofit organization. Charles was the president for 10+ years and helped us be where we are today. We are also fortunate for long-term members and donors like Catherine Merrill whose generous gifts permit us to hire our amazing operations manager, Briona Hendren, who smoothly runs so many aspects of our operations and keeps us headed on the right path each day. Please consider helping in your capacity to carry the torch of sculpture for us. We are a volunteer-based organization and always need help with newsletter production, finding exhibitions, and making connections to new members. Thank you for being a member and supporting PRS! Margarite Elliot, Catherine Daley, & Renee owenNCWCA presents Mendings & Marvels, a members-only exhibition. This theme centers around the reuse and repurposing of materials of any kind, even the reimagining of an older artwork. There is a profound and layered sensibility to artwork that reuses, repurposes, salvages, and reimagines materials, found objects, or previous projects. Artists often reflect their ability to mend and their desire to remake their emotions or experiences into the artworks they create. Mending or remaking ideas or objects also imbue them with a new life. It’s a mystical, alchemical process that has far-reaching results. For more information: http://www.arc-sf.com/ Exhibition Dates: June 14 - July 12 Opening Reception: Saturday, June 14, 7:00-9:00 PM Virtual Artists Talk: Thursday, June 26, 7:00-8:00 PM Curatorial Tour and Artist Talk: Sunday, June 29, 1:30-3:30 PM Location: ARC Gallery, 1246 Folsom Street, San Francisco, CA Catherine Daley, America's Cup: Red, White and Blue Inside, 2018- 2022, Bronze, Enamel paint 6" H x 9" L x 5" W.
