at Santa Cruz Art League



She/They: Pacific Rim Sculptors

A juried exhibition of Pacific Rim Sculptors Members who identify as female including non-binary and transgender artists working in any sculptural media are encouraged to submit images of their three dimensional artwork for consideration to be included in the exhibition She/They: Pacific Rim Sculptors at the Santa Cruz Art League in Santa Cruz, CA. There is no entry fee for member of Pacific Rim Sculptors to apply to this exhibition.

The Santa Cruz Art League, which is located in Santa Cruz and has been serving the community for over 100 years, will present She/They: Pacific Rim Sculptors from January 19 - February 24, 2024. Artwork for the exhibition will be selected by juror Lauren Baines, interim Director at the de Saisset Museum, Santa Clara University,Santa Clara, CA. 

She/They: Pacific Rim Sculptors will showcase a wide range of art by contemporary women sculptors. All subjects, themes and approaches are welcome. All techniques from traditional to the newest innovations will be considered. We look forward to seeing your artwork!

She/They: Pacific Rim Sculptors is a fee-free juried exhibition open to members of Pacific Rim Sculptors, a chapter of the International Sculpture Center. Artists who work in three dimensions who are not PRS members are encouraged to join to be eligible to submit work for consideration for this exhibition. https://www.pacificrimsculptors.org/Become-a-Member

SANTA CRUZ ART LEAGUE The exhibition will be held at the Santa Cruz Art League from January 19- February 24, 2024. The gallery is located at 526 Broadway, Santa Cruz, CA 95060. Open Wed-Sun, 1-4pm. https://scal.org/


JUROR 

Lauren Baines, interim Director, de Saisset Museum, Santa Clara University, Santa Clara, CA. Lauren Baines has over 13 years experience as an arts and culture leader in the non-profit sector, including art centers, artist residencies, performing arts companies, professional associations and university museums.

In addition to her own practice as a professional choreographer and dancer, Baines currently serves on the board of the California Association of Museums and for 10 years was on the Steering Committee of genARTS Silicon Valley, a program of SVCreates.

Baines holds an MFA from Mills College in Choreography/Dance and BA and BS degrees in Art History, Theatre Arts (Dance Emphasis), and Psychology from Santa Clara University.


PACIFIC RIM SCULPTORS The exhibition is organized by the non-profit Pacific Rim Sculptors, https://pacificrimsculptors.org/ a chapter of the International Sculpture Center https://www.sculpture.org/ publisher of Sculpture magazine, and organizer of the annual International Sculpture Conference.


ACCEPTABLE WORKS Artists may submit sculptural work including kinetic, narrative, environmental, figurative, free standing or leaning, relief sculpture and other wall-hung, ceiling hung, installation art to be displayed indoors. No art can be screwed or nailed to the floor. Art must fit through a 58”x 80” door. Ceiling height max. is 141 inches. Pedestals/plinths/risers will be provided by SCAL. Artists must assist with complicated installations. Art may be hand delivered or shipped to the gallery.

Art in the gallery will be insured for up to $1,000 by the Santa Cruz Art League (SCAL). SCAL will retain a commission on artwork sold during the exhibit, 30% for members of Santa Cruz Art League and 45% for non-members. To join SCAL: https://scal.org/


SUBMISSION CRITERIA

Submission is FREE and open to members of Pacific Rim Sculptors. If you are not a member, join PRS at https://www.pacificrimsculptors.org/Become-aMember

● Sculpture in any media will be considered. Artworks can be free-standing, pedestal supported, wall-mounted, or suspended.

● A maximum of three artworks may be submitted, with as many as three views of each artwork for a maximum of nine images total.

● Selected artworks may be shipped or hand delivered to the gallery. Artists are responsible for all packaging, transportation costs and insurance while en route.

● Accepted works must be ready for exhibition and presented professionally.

● Artwork is insured by SCAL while on loan.

● Selected artists will be required to submit an Artist Bio and Statement of not more than 200 words each.


IMAGE SUBMISSIONS

● Images must be high quality JPEG, PNG, or TIFF files.

● Recommended image resolution is 300 PPI, with longest dimension of 3000pixels (i.e., 10"), and a maximum file size of 10 MB (minimum resolution of 100PPI.)

● Image files must not include artist’s name. Files must be labeled with artwork title (abbreviated if lengthy) indicated with numeric sequence if more than one view is submitted. Example: CircleSwirl.1.jpeg CircleSwirl.2.jpeg CircleSwirl.3.jpeg


EXHIBITION TIMELINE

● Exhibition Dates: January 19 - February 24, 2024

● Call For Entry Opens: September 4, 2023

● Entries due: Tuesday November 14, 2023 11:59pm

● Artists Notified: December 5, 2023

● Select 2-3 artists for Artist Talk: January 8, 2024

● Delivery of Artwork: January 11 & 12, 2024, 1-4pm

● Installation begins: January 15-19, 2024

● Exhibition Opens: Friday January 19, 2024

● First Friday Reception: February 2, 6-8pm

● Artists Talk: Saturday February 10, 2024, 1:30 - 3:00 pm

● Exhibition Ends: Saturday, February 24, 2024

● De-install/ Artists pick up artwork/ or shipping arrangements: 2/24, 4-6 pm; 2/26, 1-4pm
